Approximately 1.2 billion people in the world live in extreme poverty (on less than one dollar per day). Poverty creates ill-health because it forces people to live in environments that make them sick, without decent shelter, clean water or adequate sanitation. WRA is committed to making an impact on global ill-health by facilitating the work of several of their partner organisations.

One such org is Australian Relief & Mercy Services (ARMS) with its exciting initiative 'Buzz Off', designed to help NGO's and small communities better address the impact that mosquito-borne diseases are having on their communities.
Through the application of 5 Buzz Off principles, namely
- training
- prevention
- education
- quick diagnosis &
- proper treatment

communities are empowered to move towards better health. ARMS invites development workers to sign on to the Buzz Off Charter in order to set achievable goals for their community, share resources, access malaria kits and impregnated mozzie nets. The Buzz Off online library provides relevant reading materials and teaching aids in multilingual formats.
